Sikkim at 50: Where Our Story Began

On May 16th, 2025, Sikkim celebrates fifty years of becoming a part of the Indian Union — a golden jubilee that is far more than a commemorative milestone. For me, and for my family, it is deeply personal. Sikkim is not just a dot on the map of India; it is the land where our story began, the soil in which our values took root, and the landscape that shaped who we are.
My family traces its history through the trade routes that once connected Sikkim and Tibet. These weren’t just commercial corridors — they were cultural lifelines, linking communities, traditions, and generations. My grandfather and his peers navigated this complex terrain not just with goods on their backs, but with resilience, foresight, and humility in their hearts. They were traders, yes — but more importantly, they were bridge-builders, adapting with dignity in times of great change.
In 1975, when Sikkim officially became a state of India, the world around us shifted dramatically. Political dynamics changed. Borders evolved. And so did we. My father, Mr. Abhay Singhi, chose not to look back in fear, but to move forward with determination. He took the lessons of Sikkim — its discipline, its multicultural spirit, its quiet strength — and carried them into the foundation of what would become Arham Knitwears.
Even today, everything we create at Arham is infused with those values. Precision, reliability, and a quiet but unwavering pursuit of excellence — these are not just business goals; they are inherited principles. The way we treat our clients, partners, and teams echoes the community-oriented mindset we grew up with in Sikkim. In many ways, Sikkim taught us that sustainability isn’t a trend — it’s a way of life.
Fifty years on, Sikkim stands as one of India’s most unique and inspiring states — rich in culture, progressive in governance, and grounded in simplicity. I am proud that our family, in our own small way, carries a part of its legacy into the wider world. From school uniforms worn by thousands across India, to ethical manufacturing systems powered by trust and technology, Sikkim’s influence runs through everything we do.
As we mark this moment, I offer my deepest gratitude to the people and spirit of Sikkim. Thank you for giving us a home, heritage, and a compass that still guides us — even as we grow, innovate, and move forward.
Here’s to 50 years of Sikkim.
And to the generations it continues to inspire.
